On his death Toyotomi Hideyoshi was deified in the magnificent Toyokuni Jinja Shrine. It was however destroy- ed by Tokugawa Ieyasu the first shogun of Edo period (1603-1868) who overthrew Toyotomi family. The shrine standing today was rebuilt in 1880. Kara-mon gate a national treasure is a relic from Fushimijo Castle (late 15th early 16th centuries). Among the artifacts inside the Treasure Hall is a legged coffer containing the articles left by Hideyoshi (an Important Cultural Property). The main festival is held on Sep. 18 the anniversary of Hideyoshi's death. Tea ceremony is performed here by the Yabunouchi School on Sep. 19.
