Tadasu Forest
Name Tadasu Forest (tadasu forest)
Contents
Tadasu-no-mori (a Historic Site) is the name of 12 hectares of wooded land in the precincts of Shimogamo Jinja extending south as far as Kawai Jinja. There are several theories as to the origin of the name e.g.: it stems from the name of the Kawai Jinja deity; or the deity of Shimogamo Jinja descended from the heavens to inquire into the squabbles of humankind. On the days of Doyo (the 18 days before the beginning of autumn) believers walk barefoot up the stream flowing through Tadasu-no-mori and pray for good health. Another Tadasu-no-mori with a similar custom exists in the shrine Kaikonoyashiro Ukyo Ward.
