A monzeki convent of the Rinzai sect Nanzenji school founded around 1654 by Emperor Gomizuno-o for his daughter. Also referred to as Tani-gosho (Tani Imperial Palace). In monzeki temples until the Imperial Restoration of 1868 the position of head priest was always taken by a member of the imperial family. The temple has in its possession many treasures relating to the imperial family including 200 Gosho-ningyo (a particular type of doll). A unique stone arrangement is a central feature of the pond garden. Typically mid-Edo period in style the garden contains camellia shrubs that were favourites of Emperor Gomizuno-o.
