Opened in 1886 Maruyama Park is the oldest public park in Kyoto city. It is located east of Yasaka-jinja Shrine at the foot of Higashiyama mountain. The park covers 86600 sq. meters including a panoramic fountain pound garden as a center piece. There are traditional Japanese restaurants and tea houses in the park. People come all year round to enjoy the most picturesque scenery in Kyoto prefecture. Beautiful scenery of cherry blossoms at night in April especially attracts many visitors. The facilities include the outdoor concert stage Azuma-ya rest house an area with a wisteria tellis rest rooms a pound and a fountain.
