Founded in 1251. The temple was transferred here in the latter half of the 16th century. Zenko a priest had bought octopus for his sick mother. Octopus was one of her favourite foods. On his way home with the octopus in a box he was reproached by another priest. Zenko prayed to Yakushi Nyorai and when he opened the lid of the box for the other priest he found not octopus but scriptures. His mother promptly recovered from her illness. The statue of Yakushi Nyorai thus became known as Tako-Yakushi. The temple is renowned for prayers to aid recovery from illness.
